Join us for lunch and a discussion of The Black Panther Party: A Graphic Novel History (Berkeley: Ten Speed, 2021), by David F. Walker and Marcus Kwame Anderson. It traces the Panthers from their pre-history and founding in 1966 in Oakland, to their citizen patrols against police brutality, to their groundbreaking social, educational, and healthcare programs, to their national and international expansion, to their ferocious clashes with the FBI, and then to their decline and dissolution. Published in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement, this portrayal focuses on key figures in the Panther movement, who continue to inspire both activism and debate.
