Black History Month Celebration: A Conversation with Rev. Dr. Irwyn Ince

Rev. Dr. Irwyn Ince will present a talk about race, justice, and theology followed by an interactive conversation with the audience and a dessert reception. Dr. Ince currently serves as Coordinator of Mission to North America. He is the first Black person to serve in this role. He also serves as adjunct professor of pastoral theology at Reformed Theological Seminary. He served as Executive Director of the Institute for Cross-Cultural Mission in Grace DC in Washington, D.C. In 2018 he was unanimously elected as the first Black Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America. Please RSVP here.


He is the author of Hope Ain’t A Hustle: Persevering by Faith in a Wearying World (2024) and The Beautiful Community: Unity, Diversity, and the Church at Its Best (2020). Ash Wednesday Service

Join us for an Ash Wednesday service at ResOakland as we begin the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a 40 day season of preparation for Easter. The ashes of Ash Wednesday remind us that we came from the dust and will return to the dust. They also point us to Jesus, who rose from the dead to deliver us from death. Join us for a special worship service where we will sing, read Scripture, pray, hear the gospel, and receive ashes as a sign of our need for Christ’s resurrection.

Community Kitchens (CK) brings restaurants, community organizations and volunteers together to help feed those in need in Oakland. Founded in 2020, CK provides over 10,000 meals per month through the CK Mobile Oasis outreach bus, town fridges, and community partners. In the Oakland neighborhoods CK serves, over half the people are going to bed hungry at night. CK's mission is to build sustainable, equitable and community-centric foodways driven by the voice of the people to support the underserved in our community. Join us for an afternoon in the CK Kitchen with Chef Kendall to help with food prep, sandwich making and meal packaging. Meals prepared will be delivered in the CK Mobile Oasis outreach bus to Oakland encampments and youth programs. Space is limited. Age 10+.

ResYouth Joint Spring Retreat 2025

This year, our ResYouth Spring retreat will be at Mount Hermon Camp & Conference Center. This will be a joint retreat with a few other churches we are close with in the Bay Area.

Early bird registration begins December 1st at the rate of $150 per student. The early bird registration window will close December 31st and the cost will increase to $200, but registration will continue through the end of January.

We hope your students won’t miss this weekend of bonding over meals, games, late night snacks, singing, teaching, and small group time. Boys and girls will have separated lodging and restrooms. 

Our speaker this year will be RUF Stanford's campus minister David Birnie, and our theme is ‘The Kingdom of God’.  We are so excited to attend, and look forward to how God will use the weekend to change lives.

Angel Island Hike & Tour

The immigration station on Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay opened on January 21, 1910 to process immigrants arriving from Asia. Unlike its counterpart on Ellis Island, which existed to welcome European immigrants, Angel Island existed to exclude Asian immigrants. Only 20% of immigrants arriving on Ellis Island were detained, while 60% of immigrants who arrived at Angel Island were detained, often for weeks, months, or even years.

Celebrate Asian American Heritage Month with us as we learn about the history of Asian immigration to the United States and think about what it means to be a church that loves immigrants. Space is limited to 30 participants.

Harbor House Ministries serves the families in Oakland's San Antonio neighborhood, offering a safe place for many immigrants and refugees. They provide food and clothing access, after-school enrichment for students of nearby Franklin Elementary, spiritual development, youth leadership and family literacy classes. Learn more here.

This event is part of Project Peace's quarterly Day of Service.  They have 265 volunteers helping with projects on March 11th at 10 different organizations throughout the East Bay.  Learn more here.
