SERVE Community Kitchens

Community Kitchens (CK) brings restaurants, community organizations and volunteers together to help feed those in need in Oakland. Founded in 2020, CK provides over 10,000 meals per month through the CK Mobile Oasis outreach bus, town fridges, and community partners. In the Oakland neighborhoods CK serves, over half the people are going to bed hungry at night. CK's mission is to build sustainable, equitable and community-centric foodways driven by the voice of the people to support the underserved in our community. Join us for an afternoon in the CK Kitchen with Chef Kendall to help with food prep, sandwich making and meal packaging. Meals prepared will be delivered in the CK Mobile Oasis outreach bus to Oakland encampments and youth programs. Space is limited. Age 10+.

Be a part of helping to run a first-ever carnival for kids and families at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in West Oakland. We will have a DJ, games, food, and more!  There are lots of opportunities to get involved with carnival games, concessions and more!  

Resurrection Oakland is partnering with several organizations for this event, including Alameda County Community Food Bank, Eat Learn Play, Community Kitchens, Oakland Literacy Coalition, Chick-Fil-A Emeryville, Rico Rico Taco, Street Soccer Oakland, Paws-to-Share and MOCHA.

Join us at CityTeam Oakland for S.O.S (Serving on Saturdays).  We will be helping to clean, organize and keep the men’s shelter running smoothly.  Volunteers assist with a range of duties from cleaning to sorting and organizing clothing donations, creating and handing out hygiene kits, etc. Age 10+. SERVE: MLK Staff Snack Bar

Our partner school Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in West Oakland serves 350 students TK-5th grade, including a state-sponsored preschool and a large special education program. They have a team of over 60 staff and teachers who support the kids and families.

Resurrection Oakland is helping to create a new snack bar in their staff lounge. We want to provide snacks and drinks for teachers and staff to enjoy on an ongoing basis - things like small bags of pretzels, chips, granola bars, sweets, sparkling water, and of course coffee!

CityTeam Oakland helps provide toys for Oakland families in need each Christmas. Volunteers are needed to help run the CityTeam Toy Store where families can shop for free gifts for their children. Help is needed wrapping gifts, serving hot cocoa and treats, and playing games with kids. Shifts are available from 9am-11am and 11am-1pm. Age 10+. Youth ages 10-14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

CityTeam Oakland helps provide toys for Oakland families in need each Christmas. You can purchase a gift from their wish list and bring it back to ResOakland unwrapped by Sunday, December 10th. Alternatively you can have your gift shipped to CityTeam directly by Friday, December 15th. You can also drop off gifts to CityTeam at 722 Washington St. Oakland, CA 94607, Monday–Saturday, 9am–6pm (note: please ring doorbell on Saturdays).

Join us for a morning of beautification at Harbor House! There will be opportunities to help with painting, gardening, organizing and general cleaning from 9-11:30am. All ages are welcome. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. RSVP here for this event.

After the service projects, there will be an optional Lunch and Learn from 11:45am-1pm for those who are able to stay to enjoy lunch (Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches), a tour of Harbor House, and a conversation with some of their Youth Leaders. You can register for Lunch and Learn here.

SERVE Event: Grateful Gatherings

ResOak is partnering this month with Grateful Gatherings, a Bay Area organization that helps furnish homes for families transitioning from homelessness or crisis. Join us to help set up an apartment in Oakland for a mother and her three children (age 11, 5, and 23 months). Two of the children have medical needs and are receiving care at Children’s Hospital Oakland. They were able to receive an apartment from Oakland Housing Authority on an emergency voucher five months ago, but are without any furniture and currently sleeping on the floor. Let's help transform their apartment into a special home! Space is limited to 15 volunteers and you can register here.

Help Feed the Hood this month in East Oakland! Join us at East Oakland Collective’s distribution center this month to help meet the needs of the unhoused community in Oakland. We will be preparing snack/lunch bags as well as hygiene supply kits. All ages are welcome to participate. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Founded in 2016, East Oakland Collective is a non-profit aimed at working towards racial and economic justice and equitable access for East Oakland residents. They have hosted 25 '“Feed the Hood” events since 2017 and have distributed over 30,000 lunches, 10,000 hygiene kits and served over 5,000 unhoused people across Oakland. Learn more here.

Help prepare and serve a Easter lunch to the women and children living at CityTeam's Turning Point home in Oakland.  Turning Point is a transitional housing program for women and children in crisis, providing a bridge to independent living.  There are currently 16 women and 8 children who live in the home.  There will be opportunities to play with the kids and help them make a spring craft!  

Space is limited to 10 volunteers.  Age 10+. Youth ages 10-14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Register here.
