Parenting Teens Workshop

Christy Hyun MFT, will be leading a workshop about the challenges and opportunities of parenting teens. She will use both Scripture and her 20 years of clinical experience as a Christian therapist to help us understand adolescence, teenage anxiety, and the rich resources God offers to parents in this season.

Christy Hyun started her career as a therapist in a group home for teenagers with addictions and behavioral and mental disorders. She has since worked with abused women, married couples, and with families. In addition to her private practice, she serves as adjunct faculty at Western Seminary.

Advent Wreath Workshop

  • 1714 Franklin Street Oakland, CA, 94612 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Families, join us across the street from the church at 1714 Franklin St. to make advent wreaths together as we kick off the Advent season. We will have Christmas cookies, hot cocoa, and giveaways too!  $10 registration fee per family will cover the cost of the supplies.  Space is limited to 35 families.  Register here (please register just one person per family).

What is an advent wreath?
An Advent wreath provides a way to mark the four weeks of Advent leading up to the birth of Jesus.  It is made up of four candles.  One candle is lit each Sunday in Advent, which begins on December 3rd this year.  The wreath shows the Bible's theme of light penetrating the darkness, a wonderful picture of the gospel.

Purchase and read the book on your own, then come ready to discuss it with a Christian lens. If you need assistance purchasing the book, please email dave@resoakland.com

4th and 5th grade parents are welcome to join as well for this discussion. We will provide childcare for younger children for those who need it. Please register for this childcare by 10/10. RSVP here.

For our second annual ResYouth Spring Retreat, we are going to Dream Mountain Christian Camp in Murphys, CA! We hope your students won’t miss this weekend of bonding over home cooked meals, games, late night snacks, singing, teaching, and small group time.

Our theme is Children of God, which comes from our theme verse, 1 John 3:1a:
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"
We will have the whole campsite to ourselves. Boys and girls will have separated lodging and restrooms. Here is a link to the camp’s facilities information.

Our speaker is John Kong. You’ve probably seen him around at church. He is the RUF campus minister at UC Berkeley.
